Ethical usage of information technologies by teacher candidates*

*This paper is the updated version of the work that was presented at the International Congress of Higher Education: New Trends and Issues (UYK-2011) held in Istanbul, Turkey between 27-29 May 2011.
It is aimed in this study to analyze the ethical problems arising from the technologic progress and to research of non-ethical usage of information technologies by teacher candidates. The study was conducted with 423 junior students who were the students of Technical Education Faculty, Vocational Education Faculty and Ahmet Keleşoğlu Education Faculty in Konya and took or have taken computer courses in 2010-2011 education-instruction term. The scale used in the study and comprising of five factors has been responded by 423 students. SPSS 17 software was used to analyze the collected data. Frequency, percentage analysis, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and Kruskal-Walis H test were applied. The result of the study revealed that the students who use computer and internet very well use information technologies more non-ethical, while non-ethical use also increases among other students as the level of computer and internet use increases. The results showed that students who use computer and internet “at a fair level” use information technologies more ethical compared to other students.
